Western Hypocrisy Regarding the Just World Order

With his threats against Greenland, Trump has made himself the poster child for wanting to dismantle the rules-based world order in favor of the rule of the strong over the weak. Hmmrr….

Ever since the Vietnam War, we in the West have uncritically supported the USA's overthrow of governments worldwide whenever they saw their interest in it, from Chile, Nicaragua, Grenada, and other countries. With our backing, the USA has systematically kept malevolent dictatorships in power in Saudi Arabia, etc. We have supported the USA's wars of invasion in Afghanistan, Iraq, and you name it. We supported a coup d'état in Ukraine because we sided with the political faction in the corrupt system that wanted to ally with us, fully aware it would lead to civil war between the Russian and Western-backed political factions. Bloodshed and oppression have followed in the wake of the USA's exercise of power in the world, which, admittedly, has occasionally and exceptionally also benefited democracy, but this has never been a goal in itself, only in cases where some dictator worked against our economic interests. A UN mandate has never governed US foreign policy, where only self-interest determines which regimes are supported and which are systematically destabilized or overthrown.

In trade policy and through our multinational corporations, we have exploited Africa and other economically weak regions and countries of the world, draining them of capital and keeping them in poverty to maintain a reserve of cheap labor to produce goods for pampered Western consumers. We lead all UN bodies with a wild overrepresentation in all governing organs. This is our world order.

Now the USA is threatening yet another small state, which, if it were located in South America or the Middle East, wouldn't even be mentioned on page 8 of a daily newspaper, but because it is a usually subservient ally, the ethical code is suddenly completely different. In this case, the USA is therefore declared the exponent of the right of the strong to dominate others and disrupt a just world order? Apparently, there is no lower limit to the hypocrisy among the political leaders of NATO.

The Greenland crisis is a welcome opportunity to look at ourselves in the mirror and to seriously begin building a rules-based and just world order, which has NEVER existed before!
