trump's peace in Ukraine
Trump is trapped by his election promise to appear as if he wants to create peace, but in reality he no longer has any interest in doing so after successfully getting the Europeans to pay the costs of the war. The American oil and arms industries are now profiting enormously from the war, and Trump is consolidating the long-term American strategy of preventing reconciliation between Russia and Europe, as the US has systematically worked to do, not only during the Cold War, but equally so after the fall of the Berlin Wall, where they have opposed any proposal for disarmament in Europe and rapprochement towards European cooperation across the old Iron Curtain. Therefore, Trump now has every reason to appear as a prince of peace while deliberately proposing solutions that he knows full well Europe will not accept, in order to ensure that the peace initiatives fail. Peace in this proxy war can only be achieved if the Europeans find a solution in direct negotiations with China, because it is these two parties that are currently keeping the war going by financing and indebting Ukraine and Russia, respectively. However, China currently has no interest in ending the war, as it means that China now effectively owns Russia and all its resources through debt instruments, and Western Europe is unable to present itself as a capable and credible negotiating partner due to internal disagreements. Therefore, the war will continue until Europe realises that it cannot drive the Russians out of the occupied territories without entering the war itself, with the risks that this would entail in terms of nuclear threat and popular support.
