AI and the way to happiness
AI is like any other technology. New technology will always accelerate developments that are already underway. If you believe that the world is wonderful and heading in the right direction, then AI is a good thing. If you believe that the world is heading in the wrong direction, then AI will be a disaster. No technology has ever made people happier. Neither colour television nor mobile phones have made us happier. Not even the stone axe or the ability to cultivate the land made us happier, but simply resulted in us being thrown out of the Garden of Eden. Technology solves current needs, but always creates new needs and problems at the same time. Apart from food, water and heat, our needs are created by our knowledge that there are opportunities to solve our problems in a smarter way. But our so-called problems are, as a rule, pseudo-problems with no basis in real needs, such as making mobile phones even smarter or being able to travel to Thailand more than just once a year. Our knowledge that AI is a possibility creates a need to utilise it for something. The invention of AI and other technologies creates a state of unhappiness in us if we do not utilise it. Therefore, AI will certainly be implemented, even though it actually makes us more unhappy and will certainly accelerate the global community's course towards disaster. Paradise and our salvation lie further out in space, on the other side of the Moon. On the contrary. I do not know whether Homo sapiens will survive as a species in the long term, but it is becoming less and less fun to belong to this species as we move further and further away from the Garden of Eden.
